For Immediate Release

Dr. H. Paul Shuch LITTLE FERRY, NJ.., March 10, 1996 -- SETI League executive director Dr. H. Paul Shuch has been selected by the Dayton Amateur Radio Association, Inc. to serve as banquet speaker for this year's Hamvention. Billed as the largest amateur radio gathering in the US, the Dayton Hamvention is scheduled for May 17 - 19, 1996 at the Hara Arena and Exhibition Center, Dayton, OH . The banquet is to be held Saturday night, May 18 at the Convention Center in downtown Dayton.

Dr. H. Paul Shuch, N6TX, holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and has taught Electronics and Aeronautics for more than twenty years. He is presently Professor of Electronics at the Pennsylvania College of Technology. An extra-class ham first licensed in 1961, Paul has operated on nineteen different ham bands between 1.8 MHz and 24 GHz. He now turns his microwave expertise toward the search for intelligent life in space and serves as Executive Director of The SETI League, Inc., a non-profit group set up to support the search for extra-terrestrial intelligence. Paul says "Any professional success I might have enjoyed is due in no small part to my early involvement in Amateur Radio." Paul is also a poet, songwriter and guitarist, and can be expected to surprise us with some new songs at the Hamvention banquet.

SETI scientists seek to determine through microwave and optical measurements whether humankind is alone in the universe. Since Congress terminated NASA's SETI funding in 1993, The SETI League and other scientific groups have been attempting to privatize the research. Experimenters interested in participating in the search for intelligent alien life, or citizens wishing to help support it, should email to join_at_setileague_dot_org, check the SETI League Web site at http://www.setileague.org/, send a fax to +1 (201) 641-1771, or contact The SETI League, Inc. membership hotline at +1 (800) TAU-SETI. Be sure to provide us with a postal address to which we will mail further information. The SETI League, Inc. is a membership-supported, non-profit [501(c)(3)], educational and scientific corporation dedicated to the electromagnetic Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence.

P.S. Tearsheets are always appreciated. Thank you.
